Peitlerkofel north face – Hruschka & Messner

600 metres of north face above the Peitler meadows – my home mountain, visible from my bedroom window.

This breathtaking mountain is one of my favourite home peaks – from my bedroom I look straight into its north face. I have climbed the Hruschka and Messner routes countless times and know them inside out. I used to get lost on them myself, so I know all the classic wrong turns too ;-)

The 600-metre face rises above the lovely Peitler meadows, far from the crowds, and the rock is great once you find the right line.

The classic north-face route, the Hruschka, is a real pleasure with some stamina and grade V climbing skills. For the Messner route you should be able to climb lower grade VI moves and bring some determination and courage for the traverses – then it is a wonderful historic climb.
